SAIL Ex-Employees Association No. SEEA/P/Mediclaim/0212 05th Jan. 2012 Director (P), Steel Authority of India Ltd., Ispat Bhawan, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003. Sub: Request to withdraw advice for compulsory deposit of Mediclaim renewal charges through Demand Draft and for accepting payment through “At Par” cheques. Dear Sir, I would like to draw your kind attention to the fact that the circular for deposit of Mediclaim renewal charges by Ex-Employees contain a highlighted advice to Ex-Employees to compulsorily deposit the required amount through Demand Draft. This was never the practice in last 10 years for Ranchi settled Ex-employees of RDCIS even when technology was not so advanced. I would like to draw your kind attention to the fact that in accordance with the fast technological changes even Banks are issuing "At Par Cheque Books" for last few years to reduce the workload of their employees as also for saving time, money and other resources of their customers in running around. This also helps the recipient parties (SAIL in this case) to get the payment in one step quick online transfer of money from the farthest location of this country/ Bank Branches. I would like to put also on record for your consideration that the whole Indian commerce is now based on "At Par Payble" cheques and "online transfer of money". Draft is a thing of almost medieval past. With one stroke of pen, may be an invertent one, as a continued practice, you have caused uncalled for engagement of the Ex-Employees, Bank Employees and delay in receiving the transferred money to SAIL Units by compelling so many of us to stand in Bank queues & waste a day. We were expecting that SAIL will give us an A/C Number so that we can transfer Mediclaim money "Online". I hope you will agree that Bank Draft making was a tiresome job and with the pace of technological changes it is not needed any more. In view of the aforesaid facts I request you to please review your decision and amend your order for payment by At Par cheques by the Ex-Employees. Thanking you, Yours faithfully, (V. N. Sharma) President |
